Stain Remover! Kapow!

"I searched the world over, and thought I found true love...Stains met another and pthwt they were gone!"

Now I KNOW some of you knew exactly what I was singing...don't say you didn't!!  For you young biddy's...you don't know what you are missing!!  Just ask your parents.

This next recipe, you can thank my sister Shelley...(Shout out to the sista!).   She asked me to find a recipe for a homemade stain remover.  Searched many sites...but this one I found on a great site POPSUGAR.  So I'm giving props to POPS!!  But don't you biddy's leave me for another site...you stay right here!!

Get your pen and paper...there's quit a bit to write down.  You ready for this?

Homemade Stain Remover #1:  Warning: the use of peroxide works like
bleach.  Do not use on dark clothing.
1 Tbsp Dawn dish soap
2 Tbsp Baking soda
2 Tbsp Hydrogen Peroxide

That's it!!  Fooled ya again!

In a small bowl mix these together.  I put mine in this cheapie little bottle I got at Wally~Mart (Formerly known as Walmart).

Now...here's the catch.  As I'm noticing with a lot of these recipes that call for baking soda or washing soda...you need to shake the bottle a bit before use.  Do a little dance,  jig a little,  get dizzy....I don't really care what you do in the privacy of your own home.  (It's really none of my business).

I used this on thehubster's white shirt.  It had a little ring around the collar and a small stain on the front.   Hence...exhibit A  (well, the only exhibit).  Was pleasantly surprised how well it worked.   Although..I think next time I will let it sit a little longer.  I was so excited, I didn't wait very long before washing it.  This biddy is a LITTLE impatient.  The little stain came completely out..but the collar needed more time soaking.

Here's another recipe that was just as easy:

Stain Remover #2:  Warning: the use of peroxide works like
bleach.  Do not use on dark clothing.
1 Tbsp Dawn dish soap
1 Tbsp Hydrogen Peroxide

There's really not much else to it.  ...So there!

Enjoy your fight against stains and whatever else you wanna fight about.  <<wink>>

What to do ~ What to do?

Hey dizzy biddy's, do you find that when you make one of these amazing recipes...that you end up with more than will fit in a bottle/container?  Me too!!

Here's a little tip to store your extras.  I had a few mason jars sitting around (yes..they just sit around)  so I slapped a label on 'em and there you have it.  I store those under the kitchen sink, where they  just sit there (yes..they just sit there)  waiting for a refill.

This post may not make you say "Ah-HA"!  Sometimes my awesomeness needs recharging ;)   I trust one of you will benefit from this blind leader!!  In that case you are as dizzy as I am!

God bless you friends!!

Homemade Window Cleaner

I've been searching for a window/glass cleaner that was worth making.  Many recipes I've found had people commenting about the film left behind or streaking.  Upon hitting (not so literal) my favorite site crunchybetty.com I found the window cleaner for me.

I was a little dizzy with concern when I saw that this recipe contained corn starch...but my curiosity prevailed.  Tried it...love'd it...why do I doubt miss crunchy herself!!   Here's the recipe...

Homemade Window cleaner:

1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
1 Tbsp. corn starch
2 cups warm water
15 drops essential oil (optional for scent)

In a glass measuring cup combine water and corn starch...mixing well.  Then add the rest of the ingredients.

You may be asking your biddy self..."won't the essential oil cause streaking?"  Glad you asked!!!  The rubbing alcohol will eliminate the oil...but the scent will stay.  There you go.

I bought an empty spray bottle at Wally~Mart (Formerly know as Walmart) in the broom and mop isle for .98 centaroos!!

***Note:  Gently shake your spray bottle before each use.  The corn starch settles at the bottom.

And....that's it my dizzies!! Eazzie~Peazzie.

May God bless you today as you go about your work!  Hope I helped make your job a little easier!

Biddy Basics

Itty Biddy Basics~

If you're like me, you search websites for ideas and homemade recipes to get certain jobs done.  Do this for window cleaner, do that for scrubs.  AAAAAH....makes me dizzy, how bout you?

I have found that certain items have been repeating throughout the websites I've checked out.  So I've put together a small list of basic ingredients that most of you will have in your house right now.  I will also give you the estimated price I paid so that you frugal biddy's can see how affordable this really is.

Please Note, though a couple of these are slightly pricier, these particular items will also last you the longest.  For example, the Castile Soap and Essential oils will be items you won't be purchasing very often.  I suppose it depends on how conservative you are.   With that said...you will be making several recipes before needing to buy any of these items again.

Cleaners:
Distilled White Vinegar (Walmart).............................................1 Gal - $2.89
Hydrogen Peroxide  (Kroger/Fry's)...........................................16oz - $1.50
Isopropyl Alcohol (Rubbing alcohol)........................................12oz - $1.50
Arm & Hammer Baking Soda (Walmart)...................................2lbs - $1.80
Dawn Dish Soap (On Sale w/ a coupon)...................................9oz - $1.00
Dr. Bonners Castile Soap, Lavender (Target)........................16oz - $9.00
Lemon Essential Oil (Sprouts)................................................ .5oz - $7.50

Laundry:
20 Mule Team Borax (Walmart)................................................4lbs - $3.00
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (Walmart)...................3lbs - $3.00
ZOTE Bar, Pink scent (Walmart & some Lowe's)...................14.1oz - $1.00

I use an empty protein powder container to store my homemade laundry soap.

Extras:
32 oz empty spray bottle (Walmart) found by the brooms and mops....32oz - $1.00

So that's it my fellow biddy's!  This is my list of basics to get you started on your journey to dizziness!  I know that you will be just as happy as I am, knowing you are saving money and not spraying, scrubbing or washing with all that "yucky" stuff.  That's my professional lingo...did you like it?

God Bless!

Dizzy Wipes

Let's get dizzy-wit-it!

Ok, so loving the idea of homemade 'Lysol' wipes.  We go thru these things like...well...ya know.  They are so expensive and it just doesn't seem right to spend so much money on something that get's thrown in the trash after one use.

There are many sites that give recipes for these wipes.  All one must do is type in "homemade cleaning recipes" and wall-ah!   This biddy gets jiggy when I stumble upon a new site.  So many peeps eliminating toxic junk from their household...simply amazing.

I found a few recipes for cleaning wipes,  but I went with the easiest one, cuz that's how I roll.  I mean, isn't that what this is all about?  Making our dizzy biddy lives easier and hopefully healthier?  ....That's what I thought you'd say!   So here we go.

I went to Wallymart (formerly know as Walmart) and picked up a 3 qt jar with a clamping lid.  Makes it look so homemade and domestic.  I also went to the fabric department a got a yard of light fleece fabric that I could get scissor happy with and cut into squares.  Now you most definitely could cut up and old t-shirt....like maybe one that your hubster's been wearing for 20 years that he still thinks he looks fine in...(oh, I'm rambling...sorry)  hec-hem....

After cutting the fabric into squares, I folded them loosely and began stacking them in the empty jar.

Note:  If you don't want to purchase a new fancy jar, just take an empty baby wipe container and put your fabric squares in that.  Yippy~skippy!

Time to mix it up....

Recipe for dizzy wipes
1 3/4 cups water
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
1 1/2  tbsp. dawn dish soap
**Add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil if you prefer a
      different scent.

Gently mix together and pour into your jar, covering your fabric squares.

I plan on keeping a small basket in the laundry room to throw my used wipes in.  They can be washed with other dish towels and be used over and over.

Optional recipes found from liverenewed.com

A:  1 cup warm water
     2 Tbsp Vinegar
1/2 Tbsp natural dish soap or Dawn
     8-10 drops Lemon Essential oil
*I personally would add a Tbsp of rubbing alocohol to this
           one.

B:  1 cup warm water

2 Tbsp Castile Soap  (Comes scented too..)
8-10 drops Tea Tree Oil  (TTO)  Use if you have unscented Castile
     Soap

Warning:  From what I have read, rubbing alcohol may damage some

wood finishes.  Use with caution.  My dining room table
has a finish on it...will most likely not use this wipe on my
                table.

Are you doing the happy dance yet?
This biddy's out!  Enjoy...

It's Fizzy!

I have heard of many ways of disinfecting sponges but this is my favorite!

There's nothing worse than smelly sponge, especially when its the little blue one I have to use on dishes. It crossed my dizzy brain that just because I drown it in soap, doesn't mean its clean. The sour smell is a dead give away.

I tried throwing it in the microwave with a lemon slice and a little water. That seemed only mask the smell, but soon the stink came back.

Upon researching homemade cleaning products and recipes...I found something so simple and immediately had to try it.

So here is the miracle remedy for all my fellow biddy's....

Hydrogen Peroxide!!!! Ta-da!!!!

Simply rinse your sponge really well and ring out excess water. Place the sponge on a shallow plate and pour 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide over the top. Watch it fizz!!! Let sit for 30 min., rinse...and...well thats it.

I'm very excited about all the uses for this very unused brown bottle.

Enjoy!

All Purpose Cleaner

~ Rosemary Lemon All Purpose Cleaner

Remember the orange and lemon peels I had you grind up?  Well here's another use.  I had plenty left over so I got dizzy bizzy on a trying a new recipe.   I love the idea of NOT spraying toxic chemicals all over the house.  So I got right to it.

Here's what you need to get this started:  Make your infused vinegar.

1/4 cup dried rosemary
1/4 cup dried lemon peels (ground into a coarse powder)
1 1/2 cups distilled white vinegar

Combine these ingredients into a jar with a lid.  Gently shake to mix well and store for 2 weeks.  Occasionally shake it up a bit.  But don't get dizzy!!

In 2 weeks strain your infused vinegar thru a coffee filter into a bowl or a glass measuring cup.

Now to the recipe, in a large spray bottle add:
   ~infused vinegar
   ~1 cup white vinegar
~30 drops of essential oils (15 lemon, 15 rosemary)

There are other combinations of scents you can use, but I like using lemon for it's sweet smell and natural disinfecting super dizzy powers.  Ok, not really but doesn't it sound good?

I've also read that you can use Vegetable Glycerin to these kinds of homemade cleaners as a natural preservative.  I'll check into it and you will be the first to know.   Or you can check morethanalive.com!

I sure don't claim to know it all...and this blog is basically me  sharing my tested and proven recipes and tips.

Are you dizzy?

~Grapefruit scouring scrub

I've been looking for a recipe to replace my...hec-hem, Comet.  This recipe calls for grapefruit, but I didn't have it handy, but what I did have in my biddy bowl was a few lemons and a couple of oranges.  They took one for the team!!

Peel a grapefruit (or lemons), cut the peels in to smaller pieces, and let dry for 4 to 5 days.   You want them in smaller pieces..learn from my mistake!!  As you can see I didn't and, well, I'll explain below.

After they've dried, grind them up in your coffee grinder or food processor.  You're looking for a coarse powder.   Back to why you need smaller pieces...on my 3rd and last batch in my coffee grinder, one of the large peels got stuck between that black plastic bar and the bowl.  Broke completely off, and will no longer grind anything.  Rest in peace my dizzy grinder.  But no fear...I had more than enough to make my recipe.  Whew!!

      Here's the recipe:
3 TBSP  Dried, powdered grapefruit peel
      3 TBSP  Borax
      5 TBSP  Baking Soda

A perfect container for this would be an clean and dry Grated Parmesan Cheese container.

I welcome your ideas and recipes. Thank you CrunchyBetty.com for this recipe! Smells soooo good.  Much better than...hem-hem...well, you know!!

This Biddy's out

 A Little Biddy Laundry Soap

Your measurements should be a 2:1:1 ratio.

1 Zote Bar (6 Cups Grated)
3 Cups Borax
3 Cups Washing Soda

1 Zote bar:  I like the Pink because it smells so good!

Use a handheld cheese grater to grate the entire bar of soap.  FYI, don't try to use your food processor for this step because the soap is very soft and will just gum up.

In a large bowl, add 3 Cups Borax and 3 Cups Washing Soda to your grated Zote bar.  You can use your hands for this part.  Mix it all together.

Next:  Using your Dizzy food processor, blend well into a powder!

And voila!!
Directions:  Use 2 TBSP for a regular load
Use 1 TBSP for a small load
Use 1/4 for extra large loads like towels
